Lincoln, IL – The men’s soccer team took on Region 24 opponent Heartland Community College this past weekend and came away with a hard fought 3-1 win.  The Lynx would score first within the first two minutes of the game when Silviano Vaz (Lavallois, France) crossed a ball to Crisitian Castillo (Moline, IL) who passed it past a diving keeper into the back of the net.  Despite hitting the post 3 times in the next 5 minutes, Lincoln would not be able to open up a two goal lead on Heartland.  Midway through the first half, a Heartland midfielder hit a blast from 25 yards out past the diving hands of Lynx Goalkeeper Kevin Cabrera (Miami, FL).  Lincoln would bounce back however when Jose Castillo (Moline, IL) passed the ball to his brother Crisitian who found the back of the net again for his second goal of the game.  Heartland would turn the pressure up the rest of the way and kept possession the majority of time, but Lincoln would counterattack as Cristian Castillo scored his third goal of the game when he hit a driven ball 30 yards out past the Heartland Keeper.

This moves Lincoln to 7-3-1 and 3-1-1 in Region play.  Lincoln takes on power house Illinois Central on October 14th in East Peoria.  Kick-off is set for 4:00pm.  Updates will be provided throughout the game via Facebook account:  Lincoln College Men’s Soccer.
