Springfield, IL – Men’s soccer (2-1) shut out the #20 ranked Lincoln Land (3-1) by a score of 3-0.  It’s the Lynx’s second shutout of a ranked team this season.  Lincoln opened the scoring in the 17th min when Jose Salgado sent a long diagonal ball across the field and Crisitan Castillo chipped the goalie from 30 yards out from the outside mid area.  The Lynx would score again 10 minutes later when Brian Wercheck cut a pass behind the defense to Braxton Young who calmly passed the ball around the keeper to give the Lynx the second goal of the game to go up 2-0.

The second half was a good match with both teams getting good chances but would end with Lincoln finding one more goal when Silviano Vaz dribbled past 3 defenders to finish the game 3-0.

Head coach Ben Massena said, “I’m proud of the guys for putting together a full game.  We took a thought OT loss earlier this week and was hoping we would bounce back and we should our strength as a team.”

The Lynx travel to take on conference opponent Heartland CC Wednesday, September 16.
