The men’s soccer team travelled to Belleville IL to take on #12 in the nation southwestern Illinois in the heat of the day with a kickoff temperature of 103 degrees.  Lincoln would open the scorning 15 minutes into the game when the Lynx won the ball near the halfway line and Silvanio Vaz took on two played before slotting a ball to Sophomore captain Brian Werchek who tucked the ball into the goal.  The game was a fast paced north to south battle that saw both teams having good chances on goal.  However, the halftime score would end with the Lynx holding a slim 1-0 lead.

The second half was a wide open game that lead to two goals for the Lynx.  The first was a set up by Silviano Vaz who crossed a hard driven ball to Edgar Davila who slid and kicked the ball into the goal.  The third and final goal was created by a one on one pass from Jose Castillo to Javier Jimenez who did a move around the final defender giving Javier a one on one with the goalie.  Javier dribbled past the goalie and tapped the ball into an open net.

Head Coach Ben Massena said, “I felt good about our performance.  It was very hot and our guys worked very hard today.  Our second goal was something we work on a lot in training and is exactly what we have been asking of our midfielders to do on the counter.  I couldn’t be happier with our back four defenders and the result of not giving up a goal.  SWIC never stops working and have scored goals in every game.  It’s a good start to a long season and we are excited to see this team grow.”
