East Peoria, IL – The Lynx traveled to East Peoria to take on #14 ICC. The game started out very even with both teams keeping the ball well. Lincoln would soon take over and start getting pressure on ICC. LC had 5 corner kicks in a 2 minute span and 6 shots coming on goal during this time. Finally the Lynx were able to find the back of the net when Peter Niederer hit a 30 yard blast past the ICC keeper. This would be the only score of the first half. Coach Massena commented, “We were very pleased on how we played the first half. The half time talk was about not letting up and giving up an easy goal.” The Lynx responded very well coming out even stronger the second half. Lincoln was able to go up 2-0 when ICC fouled on the outside of the box. Peter Niederer set up to take the free kick but instead of shooting he passed the ball behind the wall to Jason Velasqeuz who hit a wonderful curling shot around the ICC keeper. Despite dominating the game Lincoln did give up a goal to ICC when Lincoln took down an ICC player in their box and gave up a PK. ICC gained momentum after scoring the PK but we were able to hang on and grab a third goal when Eddy Milien dribbled by three players in the box and crossed a ball to a wide open Dave Amankawah who calmly put the ball away to end the game 3-1.
This moves Lincoln to 6-3 on the season.
Lincoln’s next game comes at home against Region 24 opponents; Tuesday, October 8 against Danville at 2:00pm and Thursday, October 10 against Heartland at 3:00pm.
