The cross country team battled some bizarre weather and several D1 teams at EIU over the weekend. The men’s and women’s team ran their races together because there was only a 45 minute opening between storms. The men’s team was lead by Albert Murrey (Durham, NC). He ran the 5 mile course in 26:57 and placed 27th overall. Others running in the top five for the men’s team were Like Padeskey (Moline, IL – 29th), Alek Stojanovic (Moline, IL – 66th), Jordan Staley (Clinton Township, MI – 69th), and Taylor Singleton (South Pekin, IL – 73rd). The team placed 7th out of 13 teams; 5 of them were D1 schools.

The women’s team was lead by Hannah Singleton (South Pekin, IL). She ran the 3.1 mile course in a time of 20:30, placing 56th overall. Others running in the top 5 for the ladies were Victoria Heller (Mapleton, IL – 75th), Tykeshia Thompson (Akron, OH – 87th), Jasmine Lofton (Akron, OH – 92nd), and Rachel Whittaker (Akron, OH – 103rd). There were computer issues so no team scores were kept for the women’s race.

“I thought our kids did a solid job tonight,” said head coach Brian Herron. “They stayed focused on their race and put up some quality times for this early in the season. I feel that if they continue to improve that both teams could place well at Nationals.”

The Lynx will compete Friday, September 14 at ISU.
