Lincoln, IL – On Friday evening the Lincoln College Volleyball team won a hard fought, five set battle with Region 24 foe Rend Lake College. The Lady Lynx were in control of the match early, winning the first set 25-16 and the second set 25-19, but in set three RLC managed to pull off a 24-26 victory to extend the match. In set four the Lady Lynx again appeared to have things in hand as they jumped out to a 12-6 advantage, but The Lady Warriors stormed back again to take the set 20-25. This set up a deciding set to 15 in which neither team could take more than a two point lead until Lincoln was able to scrap their way to a 10-8 advantage which eventually turned into a 15-11 win to end the match. Lincoln moves back to .500 at 8-8 and is now 2-2 in the Region.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: This match was one where it seemed as though we were playing two different Rend Lake teams. For the first two sets we played a team that struggled to pass and was unable to put much together on offense. Somewhere in the middle of the third set they changed into a much better passing team and began to hit the ball with more consistency. I can not point to a sudden drop in our level of play to account for going to a fifth set. We played hard and did a lot things well, but they just managed to win more points than we did and get to 25 first in sets three and four. I was once again impressed with our team’s ability to perform under pressure in the fifth set. We stayed focused behind the serving line and played very well defensively to earn the win.
Lincoln travels south on Saturday to participate in a triangular at Kaskaskia College. Lincoln will play Mineral Area CC at 1:00 and KCC at 3:00.
