On Tuesday, the Lincoln College Volleyball team traveled to Belleville, IL to take on the Lindenwood-Belleville JV.  The Lady Lynx returned home with a hard-fought four set victory.  Lincoln seemed in control of things early as they jumped out to a commanding seven point lead in set one.  Lincoln was propelled by four kills from freshman outside hitter Kaylynn Hoffert (Lincoln, IL) in the set.  L-BU made things interesting late though by capitalizing on several unforced errors by LC, but the Lady Lynx hung on to win it 25-22. Set two saw Lincoln struggle early and fall behind 6-1 before a kill from freshman Mattie Giese (Highland Park, IL) sparked a comeback.  However, the set would eventually go to Lindenwood 28-26. In set three, Lincoln was able to rebound and lead most of the way.  Five straight points served by defensive specialist Erica King (Atlanta, IL) helped the team win it 25-20. The final set again saw Lincoln again let a lead slip away and eventually trail late.  The team fought off two set point opportunities then took over on a kill down the line by sophomore Kenzie Cooper (Lincoln, IL) and a solo block by freshman middle Cassidy Sanneman (Henry, IL) to end the match with a 30-28 set four victory. With the win, Lincoln upped its record to 9-5 on the year.

LC Coach Mark Tippett:  We did not exactly bring our “A” game tonight,  but we were able to battle through and find ways to win.  Our serving was very inconsistent and Lindenwood played very well defensively.  They made us work for every point which is the kind of challenge we need to continue to improve.  I look for us to be more focused behind the line the next time we play.

Lincoln travels to play a 7:00pm match at Millikin on Thursday, September 22.
