What do you enjoy most about your job? I enjoy talking with students about their interests, dreams and the career choices available to them to “fit” those interests/dreams. I also enjoy collaborating with Lincoln College faculty and staff so as to provide the best service to our students.
What have you learned from Lincoln College-Normal students? They have a lot going on in their lives. Back in the day, I had only school and my sport to focus on. Students at Lincoln College-Normal hold down jobs on and off campus; they volunteer time as well to help out at the college to provide that collaboration with faculty and staff for the “workings” of the institution. And of course, they devote full time energy towards their degree study.
What do you most love to tell prospective students about Lincoln College-Normal? You are around a lot of people that will help you with your educational and life journey here at Lincoln College-Normal; so engage and take full advantage of being receptive to many mentors and pay that forward to new students that arrive. “Family is not born, it is created by each individual that is willing to participate in its’ growth!”
What’s great about the Bloomington/Normal area? I have been at a lot of institutions of higher learning; and the students seem to always say, “I am bored.” Lincoln College-Normal students are attracted to a peaceful yet “city” atmosphere with all the trimmings; such as having several other universities that host events as well as the US Cellular Coliseum that brings in entertainment. Indeed, we also have many cultural events on our Main Street in Normal. Oh, and a lot of places to eat all within walking distance. And, you can walk…because it is SAFE in the twin cities.
What do you like to do around the community? I help coach a boys’ basketball team. I like helping kids in any venue. My husband and I enjoy a movie at the theatre as well as to just sit with friends to discuss “LIFE!”
What advice do you have for students who are searching for the right college for them? Find the right “fit” for your personality and learning style. A small institution of higher learning such as Lincoln will have people help you to get a quality education and “grow up.” But, you have to have the personality that is one which engages you as an individual to seek guidance out of your comfort zone.
Words to live by: “Believe in Yourself!!”
