What do you like best about Lincoln College-Normal?
I love the small community that we have on campus. Everyone knows one another by their first name. I also like that we are a small campus in a college town with over 20,000 college students.
What do you like best about being an Admissions Counselor?
The college admissions process can be both an exciting and confusing time in a student’s life, and I am so glad that I can be a resource for them. This is the first major decision that many students will face in life and that can make the process quite intimidating. I enjoy helping students realize their potential as well as helping students through the college admissions process. I believe everyone deserves an opportunity to get a college education.
What advice do you have for prospective students?
- Do your research. Compare various universities on multiple factors to decide if the school is right for you. You should learn about the quality of the academic program in which you are interested and ask questions during this process.
- Get involved inside and outside of the classroom. There are several clubs and organizations on campus as well as intramural sports available. The college years are ones that you won’t get back. Seize these moments and have fun (and make good grades too)!
- Be an individual. There are many pressures for people in general and the transition from high school to college will be no different. This will be a time to grow and learn new things, but stay true to who you are.
What are some of your favorite things to do in Bloomington/Normal?
I enjoy walking on Constitution Trail which is a 24+ mile hard surfaced trail running through the Twin Cities that has been developed for walking, hiking, jogging, biking, and cross country skiing. It provides the community with another leisure use facility for the entire family. Also, Bloomington-Normal is known for its many restaurants. I often joke and tell families that we are the restaurant capital of Illinois.
