Internships at Lincoln College-Normal

An internship is a supervised educational experience in the workplace that allows students to apply classroom learning to real-world situations. Internships offer the opportunity to explore and clarify career choices, obtain career-related experience, develop professional skills, and make valuable contacts that can help students further their careers. Most students who have done internships agree that it was truly a transformative experience.

Lincoln College-Normal students are strongly encouraged to participate in an internship as a valuable part of their College experience and in preparation for their eventual job search or graduate school application. The Internship Office will work with all parties to facilitate this process and act as a liaison between student, internship site, and faculty sponsor.

Illinois State University’s Career Center

Lincoln College students have full access to The Career Center at Illinois State University; Maureen Roach is our liaison. The first step in the internship process is to make an appointment with Ms. Roach to update and polish current resume. Be prepared to role play through a mock interview during your appointment. The Career Center can help in establishing career goals and assist in developing employment skills, as well as exploring internship opportunities. Staff is trained to assist you in resume-writing and assistance in developing cover letters.

Before students can apply for an internship at Lincoln College, they must meet with Ms. Roach. (Students should bring the final resume and cover letter to the meeting with the program director.) Students should be sure to take their school ID with them to the Career Center at ISU.

The Career Center is located on the corner of University Street and College Avenue in Normal. Hours of service are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Students should call in advance for an appointment with Maureen Roach, Senior Assistant Director. She can be reached by email at maroach@ilstu.edu, or by phone at (309) 438-5823. Students are encouraged to check out their web site at www.CareerCenter.ilstu.edu.
