Security Officer - Part-time
Essential Job Functions
- Report to the LCN Coordinator of Campus Security.
- Enforce the rules and regulations of the College as well as applicable city, state, and federal statutes.
- Assume joint responsibility (with Security staff) for the security and safety of the apartment buildings, academic buildings, utility buildings, students, faculty, staff, and guests.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of the College grounds and buildings and the location and operation of all alarms.
- Serve as emergency response for personal injuries, illness, fire and burglary alarms, in progress criminal acts, and requests for other services as needed.
- Partner with Residential and Student Life staff to promote community on campus.
- Maintain a good working relationship with other College departments and off-campus agencies, such as local police and fire departments.
- Respond promptly and professionally to requests from students, employees, and visitors for emergency and general security/safety services.
- Possess the ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous, and understanding way with members of a diverse academic community; including students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Demonstrate working knowledge and acceptable proficiency with the facility keys and ID Access Card systems and be able to solve minor ID Card problems to provide good customer service and minimize after-hours call-in’s of maintenance and/or residential life office staff.
- Participate in crime prevention, detection, investigation, and protection as needed.
- Assume joint responsibility (with Security staff) for access control issues for all college buildings.
- Investigate open and unlocked doors and windows at closed buildings. Secure as necessary.
- Investigate unknown and suspicious subjects and vehicles.
- Patrol college property and grounds.
- Provide security for special events.
- Enforce parking policies and regulations.
- Provide escorts as needed.
- Provide miscellaneous services when requested (such as office lockouts, room lockouts, etc.)
- Document and submit written incident reports.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
Physical and Cognitive Elements of Position
- Patrol the campus on foot. Pursue, apprehend and detain an individual (as needed).
- Possess the ability to climb stairs, manually lock and unlock campus buildings, stand or sit for long periods of time inside or outside in all types of weather, day or night.
- Perform all assigned duties/responsibilities per the high standards as detailed in the department’s Code of Ethics.
- Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively and courteously with all segments of the College.
- Possess the ability to respond in calm, quick and timely manner to fire and burglary alarms, emergency situations and upon arrival provides the required services.
- Possess the ability to interpret the rules and regulations of the College with the request of service, weighing the security and safety needs of the College with the situation and reacting in an appropriate manner.
- Be available to testify in a court of law (as needed).
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- 21 years of age or older
- No criminal convictions
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Microsoft word processing abilities and e-mail skills.
- Previous security and/or military experience.
