How Students are selected for the Student Spotlight Series
During each semester, Lincoln College-Normal celebrates the achievements of outstanding students in our Student Spotlight Series.
Over the years, we have profiled students who work on campus, student actors, as well as students enrolled at MCC, in the Travel and Tourism program or ABE (accelerated bachelor’s) program. If these students have anything in common, it's their dedication to life and to all that it entails: education, work, activities, friends, and family.
Students featured in the Spotlight Series must first be recommended by a member of the LCN faculty or staff. All nominations are then reviewed by the Spotlight Series Selection Committee, which makes the final selections.
To be considered, the nominated student must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average. However, the GPA is only part of the overall criteria required of all nominees. Campus and/or community involvement, class attendance and participation, accomplishments both on- and off- campus, overcoming personal struggles, as well as interesting or unique talents, clearly identified goals, and an overall willingness to help others are traits often reflected in past honorees.
Once selected for the Spotlight Series, the student is asked various questions about his or her academic career, experiences at LCN, and interests. The responses to those questions, along with a photograph, appear on the Web site, as well as in the lobby of the main academic building.
To suggest a student you think should be considered for the Spotlight Series, send an e-mail to smerrick@lincolncollege.edu. Be sure to include the students’ name, contact info, and a brief statement as to why he or she should be considered.
