“Celebrate Summer” Children’s Program: every Saturday from 1-4 in June, July and August at the Lincoln Heritage Museum.

  • June 1   Antique Letters/ National Pen Pal Day    It’s national pen pal day! Write a letter to your pen pal- real or make believe- and then use tea bags to make it look like it was written in the 1800s!
  • June 8   19th century games        Come play the games that Mr. Lincoln and his children would have enjoyed! Test your luck at bean bag double can, hoop and stick, marbles, jacks and more!
  • June 15 Flag Day Crafts  A belated Flag Day celebration! We may have missed it by one day but we can still celebrate. We will be making a variety of patriotic crafts, just in time to display for Independence Day!
  • June 22 Morse Code       Learn all about Morse code and even how to use it! We will also be discussing spies in the Civil War and creating our own secret codes.
  • June 29 National Camera Day!    Learn all about the first camera, and the very important photograph that helped Mr. Lincoln become the president, all while making your own prop camera using every day supplies. Afterwards take a picture at our fun photo wall with photo-booth props!
  • July 6     Learn to use a telegraph machine!           Have you ever wondered how messages were sent before email and texting? Come to the LHM to find out! We will be teaching kids all about telegraph machines and how to use them to send messages.
  • July 13   Fans and face painting! Have you ever wondered what you would look like with a Lincoln beard? Head on over to the LHM to get your face painted with a beard or another fun design. Help the paint dry by learning all about fan etiquette and how ladies from Lincoln’s time used fans to send secret messages.
  • July 20   Make your own ice cream for National Ice Cream Day!   July 21st is National Ice cream Day! To celebrate we will be demonstrating how to make your own ice cream without an ice cream maker! All materials will be provided.
  • July 27   Living History     Go back in time to meet historical figures from the time of Abraham Lincoln. Interview Lincoln’s friends to learn more about what it was like to grow up in the 1800s.
  • Aug 3     National Watermelon Day            Today is National Watermelon Day! Learn why watermelons are so important to the town of Lincoln, enjoy complimentary slices of watermelon and try your luck at a watermelon seed spitting contest!
  • Aug 10  Make Your Own Stovepipe Hat  Make your own stovepipe hat at the LHM! You will look just like Abe did after attending this fun workshop!
  • Aug 17  Games and Crafts            Play 19th century games like Mr. Lincoln and his children would have played, write a letter to Mr. Lincoln, and participate in other fun arts and crafts.
  • Aug 24  Celebrate National Aviation Week at the LHM!  It’s National Aviation Week! Learn all about the history of aviation and make your own paper planes! Can you design the best paper airplane?? The paper airplane that flies the farthest will win a prize!
  • Aug 31  Make Your Own Bean Bag Double Can!  Have you ever wondered how to make the bean bag double can game? You’re in luck! We will be making then playing this super fun game from Lincoln’s era.
