The weather might have been cold and rainy but that did not stop Cody Webster from breaking the school record for an 8k race. Cody ran a time of 25:19 beating the previous mark by over 10 seconds. He placed 1st in the non D1 category. Austin Webster also broke the 26:00 minute barrier with a time of 25:52, placing him 3rd. Although the meet was scored mainly for D1 teams, the men’s team did dominate the non D1 scores. Others running in the top 5 for the men’s team was Josh Montgomery(7th), David Williams(12th), and Baruf Kosegei(19th).
The women also had a very solid night. Mallory Tharp ran the 3 mile course in a time of 19:57 placing her 17th in the non D1 division. Others placing for the Lynx were Jamieria Stennis(23rd), Akiya Thompson(32nd) and Kalina Gordley(44th).
Coach Herron said, “It was a very impressive night on both sides. We had huge drops in time on both sides. Not only did their times drop but the gaps between our runners closed up as well. The men’s team was ranked 19th last week I would expect to see us move up a couple more spots for sure. I would think our women might break into the top 25 with the way they have been dropping time as well. We do not have a meet this week so we will be working hard to continue to improve.”
The Lynx will be in action again on August 26th at Augustana. There will be over 40 schools represented from all different divisions.
