Lincoln College men’s soccer traveled to #14 ranked Jefferson College and brought home a 2-0 victory.
Cedric Mavakala (Paris, France) scored on a 30-yard blast in the first half to put the Lynx up 1-0. Both teams had a hard time getting near the opponents goal due to the wet conditions of the field. Lincoln and Jefferson both created several chances but were unable to capitalize and Lincoln took a 1-0 lead into half.
“We changed some things up to be able to keep a ball better in midfield and the second half we did much better at moving the ball,” said head coach Ben Massena. “Felix Cordoba (Miami, FL) played a ball over the top and headed the ball around the last defender and hit a crisp low shot past the keeper to put us up 2-0.”
Jefferson put the pressure on and created a good scoring opportunity but German Ellington (Miami, FL) was able to make the save. Jefferson was awarded a penalty kick with 4:40 left in the match but the shot went high right keeping the clean sheet.
“I’m proud of how the team battled today and we are starting to really put things together,” coach Massena added.
Lincoln takes on Region 24 opponent Danville on Thursday, September 20th at 4pm at Danville.
