LINCOLN, IL — The Lincoln College Women’s Basketball team won twice at home this weekend to continue one of the best starts to a season in program history and push their record to 10-0.
On Friday evening, LC scored a season-high 116 points in their win over Sauk Valley Community College. The 116-72 victory marked the fourth time this season the Lady Lynx have scored in triple digits. Sophomore Erynn Young (Indianapolis) was responsible for 28 points in the contest to lead the team, while freshman Kaleia Monterio (Rockford) also broke the twenty point threshold with 23. Monterio grabbed 11 rebounds which made her the only player in the game to record a double-double.
Other impressive point totals were achieved by sophomore Nautica Preston (Chicago) who scored 17, Emoni Smith, a sophomore from Indianapolis came off the bench to score 16, and Evanston Township grad Allysah Boothe had 14 points.
LC Coach Matt Vavro continues to be satisfied with his team’s effort. Varo said, “We came out with great energy and our defense was really on point. Our 21 steals was a big part of their 27 turnovers that created some opportunities for us on the offensive end.”
The good times kept rolling for Lincoln on Saturday as they faced the Carl Sandburg College Chargers in the finale of the Hampton Inn Classic. The Charger defense proved to be more of a test for LC, but the team rallied and managed to work their way to a 76-61 win.
Sandburg had a hard time containing the duo of Erynn Young and Allysah Boothe who each scored more than 20 points. Boothe finished with a team-high 27 points going 7 for 17 from behind the three-point arc. She also contributed five steals. Young scored 24 points by hitting on eight of her 17 attempts from the field.
“I thought we played hard, but missed a lot of shots that we normally make,” said Coach Vavro. “That allowed Sandburg to stick around for a while. We were able to force 26 turnovers that helped us get out in transition at times and kept us in the lead.”
Lincoln will continue their home stand on Wednesday evening when they host Southwestern Illinois College at 5:30.
