LC Women’s Volleyball sweep MacMurray JV in three

Lincoln, IL – On Thursday, the Lincoln College Women’s Volleyball team hosted the MacMurray College JV team.  The Lady Lynx won the match in three sets 25-17, 25-14, 25-22.  LC got off to a rocky start by committing three hitting errors to begin the match and eventually going down 6-1, but the team rallied behind the consistent setting of freshman Abbi Buelow (Guilford) and senior Erin Rankin (Emden).  The duo also contributed behind the service line as they each had 5 point runs to help Lincoln even the score at 15-15 then push ahead for the set win.  Set two was all Lady Lynx as they jumped out to a commanding lead early behind a strong block and an aggressive offense which was led by outside hitter Kenzie Cooper (Lincoln) who tallied 4 kills in the set.  The final set was much closer and Lincoln needed another come-from-behind effort to get the win.  The team trailed by four to five points for most of the set until Buelow again went on a tear behind the service line to tie the set at 18 then put LC ahead by two.  During the surge, Buelow connected with freshman middle hitter Cassidy Sanneman (Henry) and freshman right side Mattie Giese (Highland Park) for several crushing kills.   The win improves the team’s record to 3-1.  This weekend, LC will try to keep the momentum going at the College of DuPage Invitational Tournament in Glen Ellyn, IL.

Stat Totals:
Kenzie Cooper  7 kills,  13 points
Kaylyn Hoffert  8 kills, 2 blocks
Mattie Giese  7 kills, 3 blocks
Brighton Robbins  15 digs, 4 points
Cassidy Sanneman  4 kills, 3 blocks
Erin Rankin  6 points, 9 set assists
Abbi Buelow  4 points, 15 set assists
Mikayla Siebert  3 kills

LC Coach Mark Tippett: We are still working out some kinks in several areas of our game, but athletically we are very strong, and tonight that helped us overcome most of the trouble we caused ourselves with hitting errors and mental lapses.  Our setters and middle hitters connected well which opened up opportunities for the rest of our hitters.  This match saw positive contributions made by every player on our roster and was a real team effort.
