Richie Garcia and One of a Kind Abraham Lincoln Motorcycle Part of Weekend Highlights
LINCOLN, IL — A weekend full of events and activities is planned for Lincoln College’s Alumni Reunion weekend April 15-16. All Lincoln College alumni and friends are invited and encouraged to return for reunion.
Reunion weekend commences with the Wine and Cheese Reception and Lynx Athletics Meet and Greet Friday, April 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Lincoln Center. Admission is $10 and includes light appetizers and three wine tastings from Kickapoo Creek Winery. A one-of-a kind, custom built motorcycle, featuring Abraham Lincoln will be on display during the reception.
After the reception, The Lincoln College Jazz Ensemble presents a Night at the Drive-In with special guest Richie Garcia, at the Johnston Center for Performing Arts.
Garcia is a world renowned Puerto Rican percussionist and has performed with Art Garfunkel, John Denver, Sting, Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, the second generation younger version of Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons, among many others.
Garcia has been named the World’s Best Hand Percussionist by Drummer Magazine and is touring with Phil Collins in June. Garcia is not a stranger to the central Illinois area. He studied at Springfield College of Illinois before attending the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago.

Several other events are planned for reunion weekend and are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
Planned events include:
- Alumni Dinner and Awards Program on Saturday, April 16 in the Jack D. Nutt Arena in the Lincoln Center. The evening’s activities begin with a cocktail reception at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. The Awards program will follow. This event is open to the public. Dinner is $30 and reservations can be made through the Alumni Office at 217-735-7217.
The 2016 Alumni Award recipients are:
Rikeesha (Cannon) Phelon, class of 1997, Young Alumni Achievement Award. Phelon has had a bright career in public relations and communication and is a trusted advisor to some of Illinois’ most distinguished leaders.
Kevin McCaster, class of 1983, Alumni Achievement Award in Law Enforcement. McCaster is a distinguished serviceman and has served on the City of Downey Police Force for more than 23 years. He is only one of eight in his law enforcement department’s 59 year history to be awarded the Medal of Valor.
Bob Jeckel, class of 1966, LaVeta Zurkammer Alumni Award. Jeckel is a successful local businessman and farmer. He is an active board member for several organizations and is an active volunteer in the Logan County community.
- Tour of Creekside, the college’s Outdoor Center for Environmental Education, on Saturday, April 16 at 9:30 a.m. (Weather permitting; boots or tennis shoes are recommended.)
- The Lincoln Heritage Museum will have extended hours from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 for visitors to tour the museum. A one-of-a kind, custom built motorcycle, featuring Abraham Lincoln will be on display at the entrance of the museum.
- Get Your Kicks Cruise-In: To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the class of 1966 and Route 66, members of the Railsplitter Antique Auto Club will have a Cruise-In (weather permitting) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Lincoln Center. All area car clubs and members of the public with vintage cars are welcome to participate.
