Lincoln College celebrated the induction of its third cohort of students into Sigma Alpha Pi, Lincoln College’s Chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), during a ceremony on Saturday, December 7. New inductees included Petra Blažević (Zagreb, Croatia), Jasminique Brooks (Woodstock, IL), Madalyne Confer (Rockford, IL), Mykel Cross (Phoenix, IL), Kayla Demus, (Chicago, IL), Trey Jones (Bloomington, IL), Da’Quane Lee (Decatur, IL), Nathan Long (Lincoln, IL), Jordan Olmstead (Columbia, MO), Aundrea Pickett (Peoria, IL), Angel Priest (Willemstad, Curaçao), Seleste Smith (Sullivan, IL), and Jabaree Steele (Joliet, IL).
Michelle Bauer was invited by the society to give the keynote address and shared an inspiring message about facing adversity and encouraged inductees to take advantage of every opportunity to build their resume. Following her keynote, Bauer was surprised with an honorary membership award, an award given to those who embody the NSLS mission and demonstrate leadership qualities in a personal or professional capacity.
Society members also recognized Professor Eric Grunder and Tami Goodrich, Coordinator of the Academic Success Center, for the impact they’ve made on the lives of society members. Professor Grunder was given the Excellence in Teaching award, an award given to a faculty member who teaches with passion, inspire students beyond the classroom, demonstrate dedication to developing students beyond academic qualifications, and makes a positive difference in the lives of NSLS members. Goodrich was awarded the Excellence in Service to Students Award, an award given to a staff member who exemplifies leadership and mentorship and has demonstrated commitment to bettering the lives of students.
The National Society for Leadership and Success is the nation’s largest leadership honor society with the mission of “building leaders who make a better world.” Students are selected for membership to the NSLS based on their academic standing or leadership potential. Different from other honor societies, new members must complete a step-by-step leadership program before they’re inducted as full members into the society. The Lincoln College chapter is advised by Zach Landers, Director of Student Engagement, and Bridgett Thomas, Dean of Students.
