Lincoln, IL – Lincoln College Men’s Soccer team opened the season with an exciting overtime win over Lewis & Clark at home on Saturday, August 25.
Lewis & Clark scored first around the 6th minute of play when they broke through the center of Lincoln’s defense and got a break away shot on Lincoln goalie Dennis Sanchez (Albuquerque, NM). Sanchez was able to save the shot but gave up the rebound to the attackers who slotted the ball for the game’s first score. The half ended 1-all.
Lincoln again applied the pressure in the 2nd half but Lewis & Clark was able to put a goal on the board again taking a 2-1 lead. The Lynx would not fold as they continued to battle and tied the game back up in the 75th minute when Lewis & Clark was called for a hand ball in the box leading to a penalty kick which Julio Velasquez (Albuquerque, NM) was able to convert tying the game at two apiece.
Despite outshooting Lewis and Clark 21-8, Lincoln was not able to score again in regulation.
